What gives?
There were two recent ebay auctions by the same seller, of two original Altec 515B's without cones - just the basket/magnetic assemblies. The auctions for the pair ended at $865 + $180sh at a total of $1,045. Given that these will most likely be re-coned with GPA cones at an additional ~$400 (with shipping to and from), I am wondering what the rationale might have been in spending about 50% more than what a new pair of GPA 515-8C's would have cost. New vs. old but re-coned 515's are essentially the same product. Am I missing something?

Re: What gives?
I was watching those auctions too. The one frame came with a phenolic spider. I guess thats why it went for more money than the other.
It is weird how much they went for, considering you can get a 515C, with original cone, for 400-500$.
They were older frames, but not the RWB label or anything.
Personally I would rather have a pair of good working 515C, or a new pair of GPA 515C. Of course I am not a collector though. I just want to listen to my speakers.
I am assuming collectors overseas will pay a premium for the older frames. Even if they are reconed

Re: What gives?
They can graft in a replica of an original cone and resell it!
